The Junkyard cafe, CP - Delhi
'★★★★' Just go & get Junky over their fresh food and great service. It was our 4th marriage (3rd Feb) anniversary. After 1-2 months of a long gap, we decided to visit some newbie in CP. This might sound obvious, but you should first look into the menu section of some shortlisted restaurant. Today many restaurants offer 'fancy' food packed with some bizarre ingredients you've never heard of. The food looks tempting at the first after reading out their names and styles and obviously some cool colourful photos of them, but we have had our bad experiences earlier. So after a detailed overview of 4-5 restaurants, we decided to visit this place as the place is really big and serves some delicious momos I have heard of.
(The photos are grainy coz the place was too dark for a sharp click. Consider my apology for the quality of these images)
What better on a cold Delhi night, than to visit a rustic junky place like this which we have never seen in CP. It really covers a big area. They have an outdoor sitting too. The management has actually used the word JUNKYARD with the ambience of the restaurant very accurately and beautifully. Big nice custom made sofas and furniture. An open bar with again a nice junky sitting. Every corner describes the place differently. The pics itself can describe a lot rather than my words. Have a look at the above gallery.

' Junkyard Hukka '
We went on a Tuesday night so it was not jam packed. That was the best thing to happen in a long time coz we generally go out on weekends and it's really impossible to get seated before 40-60 minutes. After 5-6 minutes of roaming around, we finally got hold on our choice of a big couch. We first ordered a double apple hukka. O man, They have some really cool big giant hukka's. I haven't seen these type of hukkas lately. I just fell in love with them. Are they costly? YES, of course. 750 for a regular small one and double the price, you will get a swanky one. But it's worth a try. It came within 5-10 minutes. Can you imagine, it lasted for 3 lonnng hours and that too without any hassle. Thick smoke with smoothness at its best. Not once, it hit our throat. It was a show stopper hukka. Now it was time to dive into their fat/heavy menu book. We ordered Honey chilly potatoes, smoked cheese balls, Chicken shish taouk (Recommended by server), chicken & chive dim sums, Junkyard special veg burger, cheese Garlic bread, a minto plus fresh fruit concoction and a mojito.

' Honey Chilly Potato '
The service was quick coz it was a weekday and less crowded. Honey chilly potatoes were crisp-skinned and hot. A knob of sweetness into every part of that dish. I was waiting for the shish taouk to arrive but I couldn't resist taking a bite of it. We all finished it before it could loose the crisp appeal of a truly fried article. Light, yummy, sweet and crunchy with the right balance of spices and honey, pouring minimum investment of labour, honey chilly potatoes is every cafe's ideal snack.
' Cheese balls '
Smoked cheese balls along with white cheese sauce were a delight to eat. I am used to mozzarella so the cheddar filled balls were a bit different for me but delicious nevertheless. It was delicious and quite filling.

' Chicken & Chive dimsums '
I was still waiting for my non-veg dishes and soon I saw the waiter carrying chicken dim sum. I fell in love with them as soon as I saw the presentation. A bamboo steam box covered with 5 different sauce (Chilli oil, Chilli bean, homemade sweet chilli, smoke pepper chilli sauce & soya ginger sauce) and chopsticks on a big wooden board was sitting in front of me. The first bite took me into my deep little corner of savouriness. It was piping hot, filled with juices and the homemade sweet chilli just added a cherry on it. I was so much wanting to share it with everyone but as always, I was the only chicken lover on the table. Every time I finish one, I wanted the box to refill again and again with those chicken momos. Dim sums are actually a serious appetite for me. The sensory overload of smell and taste of these dim sums were overwhelming for me. I so much wanted to order some other variants but stopped coz there was more to come. They just made me go 'mmmm'.
Chicken shish taouk & cheese garlic bread were the only let down for me. The waiter specially asked me to order shish taouk as I was in search of some tender chicken pieces but It was a bad decision. I didn't even finish one piece of it. I cannot remember the last time I had such dry brittle chewy chicken in a nice place like this. Maybe it was brushed with an egg as I could smell egg and it was like eating a unseasoned omelette. I so much wanted to tell the chef about it but I forgot at the end. The cheese garlic bread was without cheese. It was crisp and was brushed with butter but without cheese, it felt incomplete. We didn't like it personally.
Their junkyard special veg burger is a nice balance of cheese, sweetness, veggies and patty. The bun was soft along with crispy patty & cheese. It came with a lip-smacking white sauce which enhanced the flavour of the burger. All together it was satisfying. Mojito was flavourless and flat, but the minto plus was the winner among two. Watermelon intensified its awesome sweetness and flavour. It was a cold night but it was like a sassiest summer mocktail in their bar. In short, it was refreshing, light and great.
Lastly: A big nice place blessed with some good food, friendly servers and chefs. The theme junkyard is amazing and not to forget about their different choice of areas and sittings. We really had a great night out as they are open till 1 A.M. Not all the restaurants in CP are open so late. But yes, you can count on them if you want to try something new and you don't have to listen to the phrase 'sorry sir, right now we don't have this'. I would also like to say that the servers were friendly and not even once denied any of our requests. I can't wait to try other wonderful dishes of this place. If you love hukka and momos, then you can easily bet on this place. Price is normal if you compare with other restaurants around here. We were charged only Rs. 3850/- after getting 15% discount as we reserved our table through Dineout. Was I wow'd ? YES, of course.
